    Hi, I am new to "routering" and have one question I am hoping you can help me with please. I want to add a rounded edge to thin pieces of wood to make a cantilever stand for my iPad. I have cut all my wood pieces and am ready to put everything together but would like rounded edges to the squared edges of my wood before putting everything together. I have bought a small router and have the bits needed. I tried to trim a spare piece of wood to start and had it clamped in a vice (not anything like you have demonstrated in this video) but it just vibrated violently and worked itself loose. The pieces of wood I have are not big sturdy pieces of wood, but rather approx 2" x 3" at lengths varying from 5" to 20". Just wondering what the best way to make a start on this to secure the pieces while I am rounding the edges. Hope you can help😀

    way too much measuring, use the wall whenever possible. Don't use the t bevel, scribe to the wall. Don't measure to the heel of the next miter, cut one end, hold in place and mark on the reveal line. Honestly, for miters on interior trim if you're going to measure, just pre-assemble the trim and put up as a unit.

    this is informational knowledge gold. I appreciate you so much man, It is so obvious those people that truly know the material vs people who watched a couple youtube videos and decided they were now expert enough to teach other people but the ease and way you put together a demo of a skill is very apparent when its just something you deeply know. It is hard to find quality people like you who will take the time to teach numbers and number skills as it is difficult (again, unless you really know the material) so anyways, long story long, just want to offer a truly genuine appreciation of your efforts it came up at just the right time when I had this task at hand and man, there is a lot of people on youtube over complicating things, giving weird unrealistic info that no one would actually do in real life if they had any idea why they were doing what they were doing. Posted this two years ago but its still very valuable thank you a million.

    Does a shed roof require a joist in order to give it full strength? If framed with just rafters and angle braces down to the posts for sheer value, will the shed roof be in danger of pulling away from the ledger? Thanks

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy 4 дні тому

      Yes, not all shed roofs need "joist" to stop the spreading... it just depends on how it's built. You will need to talk to an engineer if you need more help. Sorry, wish I could help more.

    I just found your videos and they're awesome! One question on this video, though. When you laid out the hip rafter you changed the guide on the square from 12 inches to 17 inches. How did you know to move it those 5 inches? Where did the 5 inch change come from?

  • @samfunaki4243
    @samfunaki4243 6 днів тому

    I do have a question. When you marked the 7/12 on the edge of the Rafter board, you've marked the 7 right up on the edge but when you've marked the 12 it wasn't right up to the top edge of the rafter board.........why you didn't put the 12 on your framing square to the top edge?......I'm a bit confused.

    When I was starting with routers, I bought straight cutter bits. I wish someone then had said "DO NOT BUY STRAIGHT CUTTER BITS", so I didn't find myself duplicating those costs with decent spiral bits. As near as I can tell, straight bits have NO place in a woodworking shop.
